1BESTARI NET For 9924 Schools

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.,

Quite some times no update to this blog due to quite busy with job responsibilities and outstation.

Interestingly, below news brings my mind to bit naughty questions...

1) YTL got many businesses including Power Generation and in this communication line quite new I think... But quite surprising can get contract for government big project... may be nothing to worry since good players can be hired easily.... Errr...!!! Do YTL enter the bid in the ring for tender championship at par level of expiry period???

2) How real 4G was the 4G technology used? WiMAX rival? UniFi Rival?

3) Tranceiver parking area? In schools compound area or near by? How safe the electromagnetic radiation be?

What ever "lah"... Its not big issue.... like most people said... "Malaysia Boleh?" So what the issue? Nothing...!!!

RM663mil wireless access for 9,924 schools

PETALING JAYA: The 1Bestarinet project, which was awarded to YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Comms), much to the chagrin of the fixed line players, is said to be worth RM663mil and for a period of 2 years.
However, there was room for an extension of the contract period but it would be based on performance, those in the know claimed. They added that payment for the deployment would also be based on services rendered.
There is a service level agreement (SLA) and also a service level guarantee (SLG) to ensure that all the 9,924 government schools are wired according to what the Government wants.
And a team of senior officials from the Education Ministry will be monitoring the progress of 1Bestarinet.
The team has been set up as the Government does not want delays in the rollout and implementation stages following issues faced by Schoolnet when it was deployed years ago. The SLA and SLG are a norm for government contracts.
The 1Bestarinet project, conceptualised under the Economic Transformation Programme, will ensure connectivity of up to 10Mbps to all urban schools and up to 4Mbps for rural schools. It also comes with a virtual learning platform, and YTL Comms is riding on the “Frog'' virtual learning programme for its total solution package to schools besides Internet access.
Those in the know claim that YTL Comms has up to March 2013 to complete the entire connectivity to all the 9,924 schools in the country. Thus far, close to 1,800 schools in Peninsular Malaysia have been connected with wireless 4G connectivity and each school is given up to 4Mbps of bandwidth.
Though connectivity to 1,800 schools within three months may be a good figure to start with, sceptics are more concerned about the outcome than the output. They also questioned the rationale for using wireless technology instead of fixed broadband.
They said: “As the Government is spending more than half a billion ringgit to provide Internet access and virtual learning solution to schools, we should be more concerned about the outcome rather than output. What we want to see is how the schoolchildren benefit from access and the virtual learning platform rather than how many schools get connected. The benefits to the schoolchildren should be a measurement to monitor if 1Bestarinet is successful or not.”
